Early Treatment

WHAT IS EARLY/PHASE 1 ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?

Early treatment or Phase 1 orthodontic treatment is performed on children who have a mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth, usually between the ages of 7 and 10.

Purpose: The purpose of Phase 1 treatment is to address developing orthodontic issues, such as overcrowding or bite problems, before they become more severe.

Treatment methods: Phase 1 treatment typically involves the use of orthodontic appliances such as expanders, partial braces, or other appliances to correct bite and alignment issues.

Duration: Phase 1 treatment usually lasts between 6 and 18 months, depending on the individual case.

HOW DOES PHASE 1 ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT WORK?

Evaluation: The first step in Phase 1 treatment is a thorough evaluation by an orthodontist. This evaluation may include X-rays and other diagnostic tests to determine the best course of treatment.

Correction: Once the orthodontist has evaluated the patient, they will create a treatment plan that involves the use of orthodontic appliances to correct any developing orthodontic issues.

Monitoring: During Phase 1 treatment, the orthodontist will monitor the patient’s progress to ensure that the appliances are working as intended and to make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS PHASE 1 ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?

Prevents future problems: Phase 1 treatment can help prevent more serious orthodontic problems from developing later in life, which can save the patient time and money in the long run.

Improves self-esteem: Correcting orthodontic issues early can improve a child’s self-esteem and confidence, as well as their overall oral health.

Shortens Phase 2 treatment: By addressing developing orthodontic issues early, Phase 1 treatment can shorten the duration of Phase 2 treatment, which is typically performed on children and teenagers who have all of their permanent teeth.

WHAT IS PHASE 2 TREATMENT?

Phase 2 orthodontic treatment is the second phase of orthodontic treatment, following Phase 1 treatment. This phase of treatment typically involves the use of braces or other orthodontic appliances to fine-tune the alignment of the teeth and jaws and to ensure that the teeth are in their proper positions.
